Full Moon Bathing gatherings

Full Moon Bathing is meant to inspire a connection to self, community, and the natural world we inhabit.  Each full moon we gather to bask in the light of the moon and explore our inner being; centered around various cultural insights, astrological aspects and the seasonal shifts.

These gatherings will occur monthly, within the 3 day cycle of each full moon, and last approximately 90 minutes. The vast majority of these will be held outdoors. Please see if there are suggestions for attire with each gathering.

Donation based. Suggested donation $10-20.

Full Moon Bathing is inspired by similar gatherings that others are holding.

To them i say, “Thank you for the inspiration.”

You may be wondering, ‘Why would I bath in moonlight?’ To which I reply with,

“Why not?!? Have you ever enjoyed a full moon with your eyes, illuminating your face? Have you ever swam in water with the full moon lighting your way?“

If yes, then you’ve already bathed in the full moon!

As humans we are deeply connected to the rotations of the moon; our bodies comprised of approximately 73-83% water. We too experience the undulating effects similar to oceanic tidal surges. And sometimes it can feel very much like our emotions surge, insomnia ensues, or even depression elevates.

Historically, amplified moonlight enables humans to hunt longer and work agricultural fields later. Under the influence of light, we are active and (ideally) productive. Even when the light dims into night, we create light to create warmth, comfort, and extend our time of productivity.

There have been a number of studies seeking to correlate the full moon to human behaviors and patterns. Science hasn’t really been able to definitively prove or disprove a correlation. Does it have to though? We’ve been living under the sun and the moon since the dawn of humanity. As a species we are guided, knowingly or unknowingly, by the light of day and the dark of night. Our eyes alone are comprised of rods and cones, each reactive to varying colors on the light spectrum. Science has proven that the light we take in via screen devices affects our moods and sleep patterns, so how could a change in moonlight intensity not affect us in some manner?

Woman may especially feel the effects of the moon’s positioning as a woman’s hormones are released into the blood stream, which is a fluid in the body. The menstrual cycle itself, when naturally in flow, will link up with the Full and New Moons and undulate with seasonal shifts such as the Equinox’s and Solstice’s.

Regardless of the science, this gathering is about your experience and how you’d like to connect to yourself and the world around you.

Why incorporate various cultural insights, seasonal shifts and astrology into these gatherings?

These are the stories of our ancestors, and their ancestors; sometimes dating back to times before modern civilization. The names and traditions given to a particular moon, throughout each culture is what bridges humans to the natural world. I hope that in these gatherings we may do justice to these stories; linking our modern lives to the world around us.

Why the full moon, and not the new moon, or some other lunar position?

Under the full moon we celebrate the fullness of our being; of all we have brought into our worlds at this moment.  In this moment we release to the moon what we no longer need, allowing the swelling of our being to fill our limits and spill forth onto the soils and nourish a new day.
